Dear Super Hero and Curious Mind,
Welcome to one of our historic archives projects online.
Agya Koo Nimo, one of the top Ghanaian ethnomusicologists and a guitar maestro in one of his Adadamu music tells a story of a 90 year old man planting coconut to the surprise of his grand children who subjected him to series of ridiculing questions while laughing at him. He calmly responded that when "AKOKORA DUE KUBE A, NA ODWEN DAAMA", literary, the old man said he was planting the coconut for the grand children and the future. Interesting, isn't it?
What are you planting for the future generation yourself? Time for Deep Reflection.
At the GHANA DANCE BAND HERITAGE, a project of the International Center for African Culture and Arts, our mission is to share the journey and the history of Ghana Dance Band Music from the early 60s. This is for today's new singers to learn from their stories, be inspired for responsible compositions, for those who participated in the history to tell their own stories and for everybody especially researchers of African Studies on popular music to know our beginnings.
This is a work in progress, we will update it from time to time, so your suggestions and comments are welcomed.
Thanks for your time. Enjoy the selections, the videos and the stories that inspired every timeline in our Dance Band music.
